Motor Insurance

Motor insurance is compulsory in the UAE and the policy wording is standardised, so the difference is in the extras: agency repair, replacement cars, Oman cover and how claims actually get handled.

Every vehicle in the UAE must be insured before it can be registered, and motor insurance runs on a unified policy framework regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE, so the core third-party liability wording is the same across insurers. Third-party cover protects you against injury and property damage you cause to others; comprehensive adds your own vehicle's damage, theft, fire and a menu of extensions.

Because the base wording is standardised, buying well is about the options and the insurer's claims behaviour. Agency repair keeps your car in the dealer's workshop, which matters for newer vehicles and resale value. Extensions worth weighing include off-road cover for SUVs, GCC or Oman territorial cover for road-trippers, personal accident benefits for driver and passengers, rent-a-car allowances and windscreen or key replacement. Policies are typically issued for 13 months to span the RTA's registration grace period, though some benefits may run only for the first 12, which is worth checking at quote stage.

We arrange cover for daily drivers, high-value and performance cars, and company fleets, comparing premium against excess, repair terms and claims service rather than price alone. When you buy or sell a car through our network, the insurance handover is part of the same conversation.

Is car insurance mandatory in the UAE?

Yes. A vehicle cannot be registered without at least third-party liability insurance, and the third-party wording is standardised under the Central Bank of the UAE's unified motor policy framework.

Comprehensive or third party: which should I buy?

Third party is the legal minimum and covers damage you cause to others, not your own car. Comprehensive covers your vehicle too and is usually required by finance companies. For anything beyond an older, low-value car, comprehensive is normally worth the difference.

What is agency repair?

Agency repair means accident repairs are carried out at the manufacturer's dealership rather than an insurer-nominated garage. It costs more but preserves warranty positions and resale value, and is standard on new cars for the first years.

Why is my policy 13 months long?

UAE motor policies are typically issued for 13 months so that cover spans the 30-day grace period the RTA allows on registration renewal. Some benefits beyond third-party liability may only run for the first 12 months, so check the schedule.

Can I transfer my no-claims discount to Dubai?

Most insurers accept no-claims certificates from your previous insurer abroad, typically giving discounts for proven claim-free years. We include your certificate in the quote exercise so the discount is priced in from the start.
